As you can see, the graph on my right shows the traffic stats to a very authoritative blog in the Online Marketing niche. This site only saw 10% of it’s traffic from search engines!  Monetizing your site you should think about other avenues for lead generation as well!

So Cut The Bull$#!T! How do I Do I Do It?

Here we have broken down the process into some super easy steps that you can follow, I will explain this further as we go.

1. Define your target audience

Finding Your Target Audience

The fist step is to find out who your potential customers or target readers actually are. Now this may sound simpler than it seems. Ask yourself, what makes them tick? What is their though process when they land on my site? Do I address any potential questions that may arise?

How I Did It

Now you may already think you know how you discovered your niches influences, but I’m going to show you how I did it. When I think of who can benefit from the content on my site, these were the ones that immediately sprung to mind.

  • SEO Enthusiasts and Web Design Hobbyists
  • Full Time SEO’s and Agencies
  • Affiliate Marketers and Bloggers
  • Local Businesses in need of more leads
  • Large Corporate businesses and Organizations

Now if you think about it, each of these groups of people has a different purpose for visiting my site, the hobbyist has a full time job and therefore has limited time and a steady income, he pursues online marketing as a sideline or passive income. He sees potential to gain knowledge and experience.

You will then get your corporate and local businesses who may not know much about SEO but are looking for marketing methods they can employ to increase their brand awareness.

At the end of the day, understanding your audience is key to being successful in your digital marketing efforts.

Understanding Your Audience

Once you have defined who you expect to be landing on your site, you need to try to understand them. Why are they looking for your offerings online in the first place? What questions or concerns might they get from reading and taking in your pages content.

Ask yourself- Does my site address these questions? 

You already know that they have landed on your site looking for a particular service or offering that you have, but are you addressing all their concerns and funneling them down your sales channel? Or are they unconvinced by what has been presented to them?

How I Gained Some Understanding

As a successful online entrepreneur at various levels throughout my career. You can gain a lot just by browsing relevant forums and informational resources for more information. I went on marketing blogs and looked for the following-

  • People that have questions and are getting an incorrect answer or no answers at all
  • When all the answers to a specific answer are poor or irrelevant
  • General advice that doesn’t go into detail on the nitty gritty of actually implementing a solution to a problem.
  • Out dated and impartial information that gets one nowhere.

I took the time to understand my audience before I wrote content for my blog, all content needed to be relevant to my audience and provide value in some way. No one likes the feeling of being “spammed” or windering, “how did I end up on this page?” so to be sure to engage you will need to begin to answer all the questions that a reader might have.

If your content does not engage, you might lose them, forever!

Twitter

Twitter is a great way to check trends and find influences and followers alike, a quick search of a relevant keyword and you will be shown some topics of conversation that are ongoing right now.

This is a method you can use to leverage your niches top influences ego to gain more exposure! Yes sure, one can use SEO to drive traffic to your website organically, but we are talking about growth hacking methods that will not only improve your SEO organically but also drive traffic by gaining mentions from respected experts.

The truth is you need more than just solid SEO to drive leads to your site. Online marketing should always leverage an arsenal of techniques in their digital marketing campaigns to get full exposure and maximum Rand value.
